The name Bressols may come from the Gallic name Brictus, or it may be related to the name of the de Brazols family, co-lords of the commune. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury of Bressols depended on the Benedictine abbey founded in 825 at Montauriol (Montauban). In the 19th century, 2 large Protestant families shared the land. During the French Revolution, the commune became part of Haute-Garonne until 1808, when Napoleon created Tarn-et-Garonne. The commune enjoyed strong demographic growth until the 2010s. Thanks to its exceptional geographical location, it has strong industrial and commercial potential.
