Beaumont is a charming capital of the Lomagne region of Tarn-et-Garonne, founded in 1276 by Philippe III le Hardi. Lined with beautiful brick houses and other private mansions, the streets follow the regular grid of the Hippodamian plan which leads to a central square surrounded by covered houses and occupied by a magnificent 14th century market hall. The town's flagship product is white garlic. In addition to the church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, which is well worth a visit, you should not miss the house of Pierre de Fermat, where the famous mathematician was born and which is now the town's cultural centre.
