This ancient royal stronghold was founded on 12 March 1272 by King Philip III, who named it Regalis mons (royal mountain). It was originally an essential monarchical watchtower, halfway between Albi, an autonomous episcopal lordship, and Castres, the fief of the Montforts. Although the boulevards have now replaced the ramparts, the town has preserved some of its vestiges, notably its superb square with its roofs, which is listed as a Historic Monument. During your visit to Réalmont, don't miss the Notre-Dame-du-Taur church (17th century), the Fréjaire fountain, the washhouse and the panorama of the Croix du Caylou.
