Built at the gateway to the Black Mountain, Puylaurens dominates the vast Lauragais plain. From this balcony you can see the Agout valley to the north and the Black Mountain to the south. Occupied since prehistoric times, the territory was shaped by the Visigoths and developed during the medieval period when the Crusaders and Cathars fought over the heights. In the 16th century, the fortified town had its moment of glory and was one of the jewels of the Cocagne region. Nowadays, its history can be discovered through the narrow streets and their vestiges: corbelled houses from the 17th century, covered passage from the 16th century, Corneilhan hotel, ramparts, Roque-Buisson hotel...
