Situated at the foot of the Grésigne forest, this ancient stronghold, founded before the year 1000, has remarkably well preserved the traces of its past, despite the repeated assaults of Simon de Montfort (three times), the shepherds, the English and even the Huguenots to whom it was subjected in the 13th and 14th centuries. Today, this high perched village - which watches over both the forest and the Vère valley - is one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. With its numerous medieval houses, its 800 m of ramparts, its castle of the captain governor, its gardens, its church of the XIVth century... It is a distinction amply deserved.
