The citadel of Pujols has favoured human settlement since the Gallic period. A powerful fortress was built there in the5th and 6th centuries to fight against invasions. Until the 13th century, Pujols is considered as one of the most important strongholds of the Agenais. It escaped the Albigensian crusade. The citadel will be razed after the peace treaty of Meaux in 1229. A new fortress was built at the end of the 13th century. It will be sold stone by stone around 1830 to transform the old abbey of Eysses into a prison. The village is classified as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France".
