Known as the Balcony of Languedoc, Giroussens is particularly renowned for its pottery. Rich in water, clay and wood, its nature explains the important development of this activity from the 13th century and the prosperity of its manufacturers until the 19th century. The end of this period was marked by the abusive use of the forest and numerous lawsuits. With time, they reduced the number of potters until they disappeared in 1870 with the death of Minotte Cadaux. In the last thirty years, the activity has been revived with the creation of the Potters' Market and the inauguration of the House of Contemporary Ceramics.
