Known for its former mining activity, the city has survived the coal recession and today tells its formidable and surprising industrial epic in its museums and on its facades. Land of Jean Jaurès, who during his mandate as a deputy defended the workers and miners of the Carmausin basin, Carmaux came to the forefront during the serious social crises of the late 19th century. Nowadays, the town is turned towards the future and tourism. Do not miss the statue of the socialist, on the eponymous square, and the castle of the Marquis de Solages, today the castle of the Glassworks housing the Glass Art Centre.
