Prudhomat takes its name from the place where a magistral council composed of 2 nobles and 4 labour courts resided. Prudhomat is dominated by the 11th century Castelnau castle, a true medieval fortress, the most imposing in Quercy within a radius of several kilometres. Several churches in the commune, including that of Saint-Gilles de Bonneviole with its remarkable Romanesque chevet with sculpted modillions and the church of Saint-Julien de Pauliac with its Romanesque nave and bell tower-porch. At the foot of the castle, there is still a lordly bread oven vaulted in the apse, covered with lauzes and attached to the bakery with its rectangular appearance.
