On the borders of the Agenais and Quercy regions, the village of Mauroux lies on a limestone plateau. The ruins of the castle that belonged to the Barons of Orgueil in the 12th century can still be seen. To the north-west of Mauroux are the ruins of the medieval town of Orgueil, now overgrown. Notre-Dame church dates from the 14th century and is magnificently well preserved. The bell tower, flanked by a remarkable slate-roofed apse, dominates the surrounding countryside. For architecture buffs, the church features three different types of vaulting: ribbed, barrel and semicircular.
