A village which owes its birth to Dame Hélène de Castelnau who built a hospital Saint-Jacques of which we have lost track today, hence this toponym from the 11th century. Lhospitalet, from the Latin hospitalis. Of this medieval establishment only an archway remains, probably the only trace of the adjoining chapel. Further on, in the 18th century, there was the Granéjouls commandery of the Hospitallers of Saint John of Jerusalem. The village is also home to Notre-Dame-de-la-Nativité, a church from the 12th and 13th centuries which was remodelled in the 15th century and which stands on the remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement, as evidenced by the mosaics discovered in situ.
