The Capdenac site was already inhabited by man in the Middle Neolithic. Particularly suitable for habitation, it was occupied for a very long time. During Antiquity, Capdenac was a Roman oppidum, long considered to be the last Gallic stronghold against Caesar. By the time Galiot de Genouillac became its Seigneur in the 16th century, the town's history book was already full of battles, looting, invasions and more. The citadel reveals 13th- and 14th-century ramparts with gates, a square keep with watchtowers (Modon tower), medieval houses and a high 17th-century stone calvary. It's a suspended island of stone.
