Inhabited since ancient times, Moirax is a former Cluniac priory founded in 1049 and considered a pure gem of Romanesque art for its sculpted capitals. Throughout the Middle Ages, it was a famous stopover for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, since it was on the alternative route to Le Puy-en-Velay. All that remains today is the fortified enclosure, Notre-Dame de Moirax, listed as a Monument Historique since 1846, and a defensive tower. Moirax offers magnificent views over the Garonne valley and the hills of Gascony. Discover its peaceful streets, not forgetting the Auberge du Prieuré, one of the department's finest restaurants.
