On the right bank of the Adour, Tostat has the charm of a village where history and stories are told. In the past, its inhabitants were known for their strong spirit of independence and the little respect they had for the priests. The archives have brought to light an astonishing discord over the non-equitable sharing of the holy bread in 1848. We also remember Jean-Marie Dalies, who was the very first teacher of the Republic in 1791. The small church of Saint-Martin, which displays a most astonishing baroque heart, and the 18th century castle of Tostat, built for the barons of Bazillac, are worth a visit.
