The rural exodus had hit this municipality hard: 600 inhabitants in 1820 compared to 160 in 2000. But since then, it has experienced a new boom, winning more than 40% of new inhabitants. Today, it is a living village of 230 inhabitants that is renovating and enhancing its magnificent heritage. At an altitude of 400 m, with a very beautiful view, Thermes-Magnoac deserves a stopover. At the edge of the village, we discover the charming Saint-Roch chapel, equipped with a rest area. But it is above all the church of Saint-Barthélemy with its very harmonious and imposing architecture, with its listed 17th century altarpiece that is worth a visit. At the edge of the church and its Calvary, whose statues have just been repainted by faithful volunteers, a magnificent wooden building with a panoramic view has just been built using traditional construction methods to accommodate a new Heritage House. Two remarkable gardens are to be visited in the town. But don't look for any remains of thermal baths in this green village of Magnoac. Thermes was formerly called Termes which meant limit, the border between the Magnoac and the Comminges which faces it. So there was never any thermal water here, but a spelling error from 1919.
