The village owes its name to the Templars' commandery, which was present in the 12th century and has since become a restaurant of the same name. The village has been able to develop thanks to its open-air base on the Lot, a multi-sports centre which hosts all kinds of water sports (rowing, kayaking, and occasionally water skiing).
