On leaving Lourdes, you go up the picturesque Castelleloubon valley, one of the 7 valleys of the Lavedan. Juncalas is a rural village with only 160 inhabitants. In the 19th century, a slate industry flourished here and the valley had no less than 25 slate quarries. You can stop at the church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption, at the wash houses, or at the valley house which will inform you about the rich heritage around. Narrow and forested roads allow you to access small passes that follow one another to open up into the Adour valley. An alternative for those who wish to discover the deep Bigorre.
