Asté is nestled in the hills, with fabulous views, gentle lanes and old legends haunting the atmosphere. True to Haute-Bigorre, the village is absolutely charming. The château d'Henri IV, of which only the ramparts remain, was the site of an illicit love affair between the king and Corisande d'Andoins. The Crastes fountain, whose waters have healing properties, and the baroque altarpiece in the church are well worth a visit. In July, the Caroutade festival celebrates the carrot, a vegetable that thrives in Asté's sandy soil. Finally, the Médous caves are located in the canton.
