Gontaud de Nogaret is a charming village built on the model of the bastides A Protestant town, it was besieged in 1580 by the royal army led by Marshal de Gontaud. It was then pillaged and the population massacred. Only the Cancon House, built between 1473 and 1495, survived. Now a private castle, Le Cloître, the building has had many owners and different phases of work. The market hall dates from the 11th century and hosts the Wednesday morning market If you leave Gontaud towards Tonneins, make a stop at the Gibra mill, restored in the 1980s and listed as a Historic Monument
