Pibrac (population 8,000) lies at the gateway to the Bouconne forest. In the early 12th century, a castrum existed between the Courbet and Aussonnelle rivers. The fortified motte and its surrounding residential area formed the heart of the town. Pierre de Pibrac was the first known lord. The area was also under the influence of the lords of L'Isle-Jourdain and the Knights of Malta. Guy du Faur de Pibrac (poet, magistrate and diplomat) and Germaine Cousin, a shepherdess who became Ste-Germaine after her canonization, lived here. A pilgrimage developed after her beatification in 1854.
