CHÂTEAU DE DURAS
During the summer season, the castle offers a sound and light show with dazzling frescoes on its façade.
The castle of the Dukes of Duras has become a major tourist attraction in the region and has had several lives. Simple castrum in the XIIth century, fortress in the XIVth century, it was transformed then into residence of pleasure in the Renaissance. After having undergone the assaults of the Revolution and the degradation of time, it is repurchased by the commune in 1969 then restored. Classified as a historical monument, it offers a lively scenography through about thirty rooms. From the basement to the top of the tower (where the view on the village of Duras and its surroundings is sublime), you will pass by the kitchens of the Middle Ages cut in the rock, the room known as "with the secrecies" endowed with a surprising acoustic characteristic (one hears in a corner what is whispered at the other end). You will see the magnificent wooden framework, the apartments of the Duke and the Duchess furnished in partnership with the National Furniture... The castle is not only for visits. It is the scene of many events, especially during the summer with falconry shows, tournaments of chivalry, sword fights between musketeers and villains. The nightly mapping on the façade is a great success every summer. Easter egg hunts, horrific exploration at Halloween time: the building lives to the rhythm of the seasons. Take a walk through the picturesque streets of the village, you won't regret it!
