Famous for its colourful red-tiled houses, this village shines on the borders of Béarn, Bigorre, Landes and Armagnac. At the top of a green hillside, Viella overlooks magnificent forests and plains with a wide variety of crops that provide a magical view. This unique view is reinforced by the Pyrenees chain in the background. Former stronghold of the county of Foix, it is attached in 1367 to the county of Armagnac. It was almost decimated by a plague epidemic in the Middle Ages. Today, it draws a good part of its resources from wine growing and bears the Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh and Madiran appellations.
