Samatan was for a long time a castellany of Comminges, only 3 km from Lombez la Gasconne. Today, Samatan has about 2,500 inhabitants and competes with Gimont for the title of "capital of foie gras" thanks to its year-round fat markets which attract many restaurateurs from the Toulouse area. Its commercial prosperity dates back to the Middle Ages, and even today, Samatan is more alive and dynamic than its beautiful neighbor Lombez. Ravaged by the troops of the Black Prince, the town offers few monuments, but don't miss the charming Place de la Fontaine, very lively on market days, and lined with very good restaurants
