Saint-Soulan has 165 inhabitants. A ridge line and watershed passes through this commune situated between two valleys, bounded on the east by the Esquison, one of the tributaries of the Save, and on the west by the Marcaoue, one of the tributaries of the Gimone. It is one of the highest villages of the Savès gersois, culminating at 302 m (the Bordeneuve). The site has been inhabited since antiquity (Gallo-Roman villa and burials). In 1860, excavations revealed a piece of fossil whale and then at the beginning of the 20th century several mastodon tusks more than a meter long. The origin of the name Saint-Soulan could come from the Latin solano, a place exposed to the sun. Similarly, in Gascony the land exposed to the sun is called soulan. In the Middle Ages most of the land belonged to the Cistercians of the monastery of Planselve (Gimone valley). Within a large park, the castle of Combis built in the 17th century, in red bricks, preceded by two dovecotes, does not lack charm. Its British owners program gastronomic cooking courses there, during which they receive their guests in luxury rooms. In the centre of the village, a wrought iron cross of the Bertin type with the instruments of passion: cock, ladder, three nails, hammer, pliers, lance, vinegar sponge. There are two picnic tables, one shaded, opposite the town hall, with a panoramic view of the Savès hillsides, the other on the2nd level of the leisure area with a water point and games for children with a view of the Pyrenees. The patronal feast takes place the 3rd week of June with open-air meals, petanque competitions and other activities. At the beginning of December, there is also Aligospel music with gospel songs in the Saint-Jacques church followed by a convivial meal in the multi-purpose hall on the theme of aligot. Saint-Soulan is the birthplace of a young and famous rugby player with a fine record of achievements: Matthis Lebel.
