A small village on the banks of the Baïse river, Saint-Michel is in fact the amalgamation of several small villages that still existed individually under the Ancien Régime. In the 10th century, Saint-Michel belonged to the Lords of Taran, who built a church in honor of the Archangel Michael. The Romanesque building was demolished in the 18th century to make way for a flamboyant neo-Gothic church. The bell tower is reminiscent of the old Notre-Dame de Paris spire, with its turrets and slender appearance. However, there is no trace of the former lords, who lived in a wooden tower built to the north of the village.
