Crossed by the ancient Roman road Lannemezan-Bordeaux, Peyrusse-Grande is also crossed by the watershed between the Adour and Garonne basins. The village boasts fine medieval houses, and the church of Saint-Mamet is one of the oldest in the Gers. Its archaic Romanesque style of clean-cut arches and rounded openings is deceptive. The building dates back to the very early 11th century. Inside, the vaulted back and cul-de-four apse are typical of the period. Carved arches and capitals feature rare interlacing motifs. Visit it before your visit to d'Artagnan.
