This pretty bastide located at the gates of Auch, in the Gers valley, was founded in 1281. Great rival of Auch, supported by the royal power, Pavie was totally destroyed in 1444, at the end of the Hundred Years War. However, half-timbered houses, a fortified market hall, the 13th century church of Saint-Pierre, restored in the 19th century, a beautiful 13th century gothic three-arched bridge over the Gers, as well as the Carmelite monastery remain. Today, Pavia is also a lively and commercial town, with a lot of large shops and green spaces, offering to the inhabitants and visitors a nice quality of life
