This commune in the Bas-Armagnac region owes its name to the Romans. Nugarolium was the "city of walnut trees". It was founded in 1055 by Saint-Austinde, then archbishop of Auch. He bought the land from Guillaume Nogaro and founded the Sauveté to hold his councils. An important village on the traditional route to Santiago de Compostela, Nogaro lies between Eauze and Aire-sur-l'Adour. Louis XIV stopped here with his musketeers on April 26, 1660, on his way to Saint-Jean-de-Luz to marry Maria-Theresa of Spain. With over 2,000 inhabitants, Nogaro is a Mecca for the automobile, aeronautics and Landes racing industries.
