This village is a perfect example of a bastide built in the 13th century. Founded by the Count of Toulouse, its layout is geometrically pure, with a beautiful central square and flower-filled arcades. Its history is a turbulent one. The village was burnt down in 1565 during the Wars of Religion, then fell into ruin. It was rebuilt three centuries later and has regained its former charm, joining the closed circle of France's Most Beautiful Villages. In the heart of the Armagnac region, home to the magnificent Gallo-Roman villa of Séviac, Montréal also offers panoramic views over the vine-covered valleys of the Gers.
