With its 72 inhabitants it is one of the least populated villages in the Savès Gersois. Inhabited since Gallo-Roman times, Montégut-Savès saw the construction of a medieval castle which allowed the surveillance of the valley of the Aussoue, below, fief of various lords among whom the lord of Mun whose tomb was in the nave of the old church. The motto of this lord was nil ultra, which means to be satisfied with what one has and can be translated by "nothing more". Montégut-Savès was built at the foot of this castle of which some ruins remain. The Saint-Jean-Baptiste church was built on a small promontory between 1822 and 1890, on the site of an older church. It is unique in that it is built entirely of red brick and has an unfinished bell tower that does not exceed the height of the inner nave, which gives it a massive fortress-like appearance. It is said that there are still underground passages between the old castle and the church. To see, a pedestrian bridge over the Aussoue made of slabs of schist from the Pyrenees. Remarkable also, a very old farm called "l'Oustaou" restored as a dwelling house (private property) is to be admired on the road, called Chemin de l'Aussoue, leading to the village by the cemetery. A nice little old brick bridge over the Aussoue gives access to the communal meadow. The village has a craftswoman who specialises in making jewellery from recycled packaging and who exhibits and sells at craft markets and other local fairs. Montégut-Savès is also home to the family business Esprit Foie Gras, which processes and sells duck specialities. On reservation, it is also a very friendly table d'hôtes which welcomes groups. You can also taste wines from the Gers. The Lamouroux family produces lentils in Montégut Savès.Beautiful view of the Pyrenees from the church square, where a bench welcomes hikers in the shade of a majestic chestnut tree. A communal meadow with trees and two picnic tables in a bucolic setting near the Aussoue. A team of volunteers organizes once or twice a year in the communal meadow a nature and festive day to raise awareness of the good deeds for the planet with the logistical and cultural support of the Maison des Écritures de Lombez.
