Perched on its hillside, the castelnau of Montaut-les-Créneaux looks like Tuscany in this hilly landscape. The village founded in the 10th century is not lacking in charm with its massive tower-gate which houses a vaulted passage, its surrounding wall, remains of the ramparts and its castle, dating from the 12th century, the upper part of which bears a crenellation which gave it its name. It is private and can only be admired from afar, in the middle of its park. The church dedicated to Saint-Michel, built in the 12th century, is worth a visit, as is the magnificent stone cross, dedicated to Saint Jacques, dating from the mid-17th century and classified as a historical monument. You will not miss its old washhouse and half-timbered facades, which make it a site with undeniable charm. Walking through this village offers you pretty, quiet and relaxing walks and the nearby Pilhat woods offers beautiful hikes. So what are you waiting for to stroll around Montaut-les-Créneaux and meet its 672 Montaldais?
