Facing the Pyrenees, this medieval village was the very first capital of the county of Astarac. The Counts of Astarac built their castle here in the 10th century. The castle mound can still be seen on the site of the current water tower. At that time, the town was equipped with a fortified enclosure surrounded by a ditch and a tower-gate. Only the latter has withstood the ravages of time. Opposite it stands the church of Saint-Laurent, erected in 1490 outside the walls. It is part of the itinerary of the "Route of the murals" thanks to its magnificent frescoes, including a Tree of Jesse which represents the genealogy of Christ.
