According to the legend, a lieutenant of Caesar, faced with the resistance of the village, would have shouted to his soldiers Retro singuli, that is to say "back, one by one", exclamation which would have given its name to the village. Others think that it comes from cingulum, referring to the fortified enclosure. In the 11th century, Larressingle was given to the abbots of Condom. It was fortified and remained impregnable until the end of the 16th century. In the XVIIIth century, the last bishop of Condom sacked the village, which fell into ruin. But in the 20th century, the Duke of Treviso found patrons and saved it. Known as "the little Carcassonne of the Gers", Larressingle is one of the most beautiful villages in France.
