In Gascon, roumiou means "pilgrim". The village has kept in its name the memory of the German monk Albert who, returning from a pilgrimage to Compostela, stopped there to found a small community which prospered. Today as yesterday, the pilgrim of the via Podiensis is moved by the splendor of the collegiate church of Saint-Pierre de La Romieu and the finesse of its cloister. La Romieu is a charming flower village. Not far away, you will also find the Jardins de Coursiana, very beautiful private gardens. While strolling through the streets, you will notice curious cat statuettes, a tribute to the legend of Angeline who saved the village from the plague thanks to her felines.
