First capital of Armagnac and seat of the Parlement de Gascogne since the 10th century, this ancient fortified town is home to 700 souls. It is thought to have been founded in the year 620 by the Saxon lord Anianus. It was first destroyed by the Black Prince in 1335, then by Calvinists in 1590. The town has preserved its wooden covered square, its wash-house and its 12th-century Romanesque church of Saint-Saturnin, with its listed porch. Every year, the arena hosts bullfights and Landes races during the Easter festivities. There's also a 4-hectare lake and numerous hiking trails to relax on.
