In the heart of the Armagnac region, Villeneuve-de-Marsan, capital of the Landes region and producer of the most famous eau-de-vie, has preserved its traditions, in particular its patron saint's festival in early August. In season, the town is alive with Landes cow races and novilladas. The town boasts Moorish-style arenas and a church built in the early 14th century. Today, the town still retains a few vestiges of its past, such as the crenellated tower, the bullring built in 1911 and the covered market. A walk from the church takes you to the Théâtre de Verdure, a washhouse built in 1820 and a fountain.
