Close to Saint-Julien-en-Born and the seaside resort of Contis, Uza today has just 200 inhabitants. From the 18th century onwards, Uza was a major center of industrial activity, with the development of forges using the wood and ore (garluche) available locally. Life revolved around the lake, on the edge of which you can see a special building. It is now a listed building. Nearby, the former workers' buildings have been converted into housing. The history of Uza is intertwined with that of the Lur Saluces family, who own a medieval castle here, which has been rebuilt, modified and restored many times, as well as extensive land holdings.
