Until 2001, the commune was home to a thermal spa that exploited underground sulfurous waters for the treatment of certain infections, which gave the town its name. As for Tercis, it derives from Latin and means "3 leagues from Dax". In the Middle Ages, the thermal baths housed a leper colony for the treatment of patients returning from the Crusades. But its fame came later, when prestigious guests came to the baths, including the Spanish queen Marie-Anne de Neubourg and the Basque privateer Etienne Pellot. The commune is surrounded by the alluvial plains of the Luy and Adour Barthes.
