A forge with 56 crafts and 4,000 tools that is like a history book and the largest collection of crafts from the past.

This collection of 56 looms and more than 4,000 tools is the largest collection of the looms of the past. The Forges of Pyrenees are like a history book. The museum invites you to enter into the secret of the old trades grouped around several themes: the travelling trades, those of agriculture and breeding, domestic life, housing and clothing. The animated barns invite you to discover the various living workshops around the village square: the blacksmith, the 1900 school, the bread oven, the swift forge... You will discover the last working swift forge, classified as a historical monument, which has kept its former appearance and its dark and mysterious atmosphere. 450 years old, with a proven existence since the Middle Ages, the Forge de Montgailhard is at the origin of the manufacture of iron bars. Not to be missed, the demonstration of the functioning of the hammer forge. You will also share a moment of emotion at the Ages of Life space where Baptistou tells his great-granddaughter about his life as an Ariegeois. An unforgettable journey through time... in an unforgettable village. Here, everything is designed to make you feel welcome: a large car park and a free kennel, a picnic area by a lake, a play area for children, an auditorium for your events and even an art gallery. Latest novelties: discovery trail to be explored with the family and the completely renovated iron museum.
