Occitan is spoken before 10am and "English" afterwards. Regional products abound, local producers are honoured and the presence of craftsmen such as the remover, the manufacturer of leather sandals to your measures transport you in its markets of former days which makes that we are not surprised to see and hear some troubadours at the angle of an arcade. It is an amazing market where you can also buy plants, chairs, power tillers and farmyard animals. On Thursday mornings, there is a small market of local producers.

Regional grocery Basque specialties

Ongi etorri Euskal Herrira! Christophe Fontès is a lover of the Basque Country. He had regaled us in his restaurant in Ax-les-Thermes, specialized in the flavors of this country. He opened a specialized store under the roof of Mirepoix and proposes cheeses, delicatessen and emblematic dishes of the Basque Country, accompanied by wines from Irouleguy, Eguzki beers and of course the famous Espelette pepper. You can also enjoy on the large terrace, sandwiches, burgers, mixed platters of cold meats and cheeses, all made with Basque products.

Fish and seafood shop

Marie-Laure and Cécile organized the meeting of the earth and the sea in Mirepoix. They have favoured short circuits and small local producers, whenever possible. The fish are caught and not bred and of French origin. The shop is large, colourful and very bright. The use of baskets to present the vegetables accentuates the feeling of authenticity and quality. All the prices are written on slates, giving a market-garden feel and the advice given by the two saleswomen is always listened to and appreciated.

Openair market

One of the most beautiful markets in Ariège takes place in Mirepoix. In the heart of this sublime medieval village, it animates the morning of Monday of the inhabitants and visitors come from the canton, the department, the bordering regions and even of the foreigner, in a hurry to fill their basket of products of the soil, fruits, vegetables, meats, fishes, spices, textile, jewels, objects of craft industry... in a convivial and coloured environment. You can also meet on Thursdays under the covered market hall for another small market, open only to producers and food trades.
