The town, in the heart of the ancient Olmes country, is the stronghold of the textile industry despite the repeated assaults of the economic crisis that has hit this region hard. The textile tradition has a long history in the Olmes region, dating back to the very beginning of our era. Among the interesting monuments is the Church of the Assumption, a vast four-bay Gothic vessel with an octagonal choir. Mady de la Giraudière, a talented naive painter from Lavelanet, painted the various stations of the cross. The church of Saint-Sernin de Bensa, in the district of the same name was a possession of Saint-Sernin de Toulouse.
