This valley is formed by numerous hamlets scattered in the picturesque valley of the same name: Ayet, Samortein, Arrien, Villargein, Aret, Tournac. It is probably the best known of all the ariégeoises valleys, first because of the beauty of its sites, but especially for the traditional costume of its inhabitants. Men wear a hat with wide edges, jacket and shorts, tight gaiters, long and curved pointe, and a long and solid stick, while women wear a linen cornette, jacket, tunicate skirt and scarf to cover their shoulders. The Bethmale Valley consists of seven small lakes: Auraouet, Cruzous, Milouga, Eychelle, Barlonguère, Ayet and Bethmale, the most famous of all.
