It would be a pity if during your stay in Ariège you did not discover the Romanesque church of Saint-Julien d'Axiat, dating from the 12th century. It was one of the churches of the Lordadais given temporarily by Roger II of Foix to the Abbey of Cluny in 1075. Although ravaged by a terrible fire during the night of March 5 to 6, 1915, it retained its original appearance. The church is built in the shape of a cross and has, inside, a decoration of indisputable beauty, notably the friezes and capitals, although partially damaged.
