South of the village of Samadet, in the heart of the Tursan vineyards, there is a prehistoric camp and the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa. It was here that the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Jean was built. Until 1826, it was the parish church. Mosaics have been unearthed. Today, the building is used as a barn. The village of Samadet, with its 1,100 inhabitants, is built on a hillside. Its history is closely linked to the earthenware industry. Founded in 1732 by Abbé Roquépine, baron of Samadet and neighboring seigneuries, the factory operated until the mid-19th century. Today, this activity is revived through quality craftsmanship.
