In the heart of the Landes region, Retjons is a traditional stop-off point on one of the most important routes to Santiago de Compostela, the one starting from Vézelay. In fact, it's on the commune's territory that you'll find the milestone for the remaining 1,000 kilometers to Santiago de Compostela. Despite this centuries-old history, the commune is not ancient, having been created by the division of the vast territory of Lugaut in 1906 into two villages: Bourriot-Bergonce and Lugaut-Retjons. The name Retjons was finally adopted in 1953. Here, you can visit the church, with its magnificent Spanish Renaissance altarpiece.
