The Messin region, and Woippy in particular, is famous for its delicious, juicy strawberries. It was in 1868 that the Vion brothers decided to grow them in this small village. Woippy's reputation spread far and wide, and before the Second World War, the Moselle valley and Woippy were even ranked number one in French strawberry production. Alas, the war put an end to this, but the reputation of Woippy strawberries was not completely extinguished, even though there are no longer any growers in the commune. As a reminder, every June the town organizes its traditional Strawberry Festival, with a wide range of events.
