Bordered to the south by the Gaves Réunis river, the village of Orthevielle lies at the heart of the Pays d'Orthe region. Formerly known as Aortae villae, it was here that the House of Orthe first settled in the 9th century. Here, you can visit the Saint-Pierre church, built on a rocky outcrop and housing a marble altar by the Mazetti brothers, discover the Pampara fountain, which continuously spouts undrinkable water, and washhouses. Orthevielle still boasts several Caveries, including Montgaillard, Peyroux, Gestède and Lasalle. These ancient dwellings once belonged to noble knights who ensured their own defense by surrounding themselves with moats.
