Metz, capital of the Mirabelle plum, is a multi-faceted city that will delight leisure, culture and nature lovers alike! It's a city surrounded by greenery (ranked3rd greenest city in France), where numerous promenades have been laid out in urban spaces that have been converted into natural areas. In the very heart of the city, 580 hectares of green spaces delight the inhabitants. It's also a city of history: Metz already existed 3,000 years ago... In Gallo-Roman times, it was a powerful city called Divodorum. Metz has thus stood the test of time, as evidenced by its many historic monuments. For architecture buffs, the Imperial Quarter is well worth a visit. The brainchild of Emperor Wilhelm II, it features a surprising diversity of buildings and houses, from neo-Romanesque to Art Deco and Jugendstil. You'll also marvel at the famous St. Stephen's Cathedral, nicknamed "God's lantern" because of its stained-glass windows (some of which were designed by Chagall). When it comes to culture, the city's got it! The Centre Pompidou, the Opéra-Théâtre, the Frac and, of course, the Musée de la Cour d'Or, are just some of the must-sees for art lovers. What would a city be without entertainment? With a vast choice of bars, restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, Metz has plenty to surprise you... The pedestrianized center is ideal for strolling around and taking in the sights. It's easy to get around, and you can criss-cross the city thanks to the Mettis network. It's a charming city to (re)discover!
