A 13th-century fortified town, Montfort-en-Chalosse has been awarded the "Station Verte de vacances" label. At an altitude of 110 metres, the village dominates the surrounding hillsides, which can be seen from the panoramic viewpoint (the belvedere). Local painter and poet Marcel Saint-Martin wrote: "Montfort-en-Chalosse is a pearl on the gorge of the sky, a rose of Chalosse seen from above by clouds and birds". Not far from the belvedere, don't miss the Jardin de Payot, a tenant farmer's garden where vegetables, traditional trees and medicinal plants grow. Superb views of the Pyrenees from the Romanesque church.
