Land of strong rural values, Magescq was inhabited for a long time by farmers, gémiers, workers, muleteers and millers. It is famous today for its church Notre-Dame, a must of the city and one of the most singular of the region. An ancient covered fortification of imposing dimensions, it was built by the English, although the date of construction is unknown. Its oldest part, the apse on the east side, dates from the 12th century. Magescq is also home to the Tinon stone, formerly known as the Witches' stone, which marks the boundary of five communes, and is nowadays a destination for many hikers.
